Established in 1992
In 1989 Roger Rodecker, a vibrant young man, faced a life-altering traumatic brain injury at the age of 18. Although just a passenger, the traffic accident caused major head injuries and cardiac arrest and while paramedics were able to restart his heart on the life-flight to memorial hostpital (Long beach), he laid in a coma for many MANY months, hanging between life and death before beginning a slow recovery. Despite the immense challenges, Roger demonstrated incredible resilience, completed his high school education and even helped out at his brothers real estate company. His mother, Diane Rodecker, inspired by Roger's strength, founded the "Challenger" newspaper column at the Orange County Register which (for years) highlighting stories of individuals overcoming mental and physical handicaps. Music (and the arts) were a passion for both Roger and his sibs and following his passing in 1992 (due to complications from his injuries) Diane Rodecker founded an arts based scholarship at his alma-mater (Fountain Valley High School) to honor his tenacity and passion.
The Rodecker Foundation continues this legacy, honoring both Roger and Diane Rodecker (who passed in March, 2025) through their family: David, Angela, Wallace, and their children. Among other things, the Foundation funds The Roger Rodecker Memorial Scholarship which is an annual grant awarded to a deserving graduating senior from Fountain Valley High School. This scholarship holds a special emphasis on students who have overcome significant personal challenges to achieve their academic goals, participated in Concert Choir and/or students of the arts demonstrating a tenacity and passion for higher education.
